BRIAN URLACHER & ROGER CLEMENS TEAM UP TO WIN 13TH ANNUAL MICHAEL JORDAN INVITATIONAL AT SHADOW CREEK IN LAS VEGAS

More than $500,000 Raised for Charity
During 2014 Tournament Hosted by ARIA Resort & Casino

LAS VEGAS (April 6, 2014) – Former Chicago Bears All-Pro Linebacker Brian Urlacher and former All-Star New York Yankees & Houston Astros Pitcher Roger Clemens ran away from the 19-team field on Sunday to win the 13th Annual Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational (MJCI) hosted by ARIA Resort & Casino.

The winning duo won by four strokes, taking home the title with a score of nine-under 135, beating the second-place team of NFL Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson and MJCI defending champion and MLB Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith. The tournament was held at Shadow Creek for the fourth consecutive year and raised more than $500,000 for charity.

Urlacher and Clemens, who each took home $20,000 for their designated charities, followed up their first-round score of seven-under 65 with a two-under 70 on day two. They were able to break a first-round tie with Dickerson and Smith with a stretch of three birdies in four holes and coasted to a victory.  Dickerson/Smith hit a rough patch in the middle of their second round resulting in a couple of bogies.

Defending champion Vince Coleman, Smith’s partner in 2013, was teamed with NBA Hall of Fame legend Julius “Dr. J” Erving for this year’s event and they finished in seventh place with a two-day score of one-over 145. Fan favorite, NBA legend and tournament host Michael Jordan teamed up with NFL Super Bowl champion and “sack master” Dwight Freeney for the second straight year and finished in a tie for third at four-under 140.

When asked about the tournament and their winning results, Clemens said, “Michael Jordan, ARIA and Shadow Creek put on a great event every year and that’s why you see the firepower we had on the course this week. Urlacher played like a champ and I was fortunate to have him as my partner.”

Urlacher followed his partner’s comments with, “Roger has an incredible drive and we played really well together. As a sports fan myself, it was incredible to meet and play with (Ozzie) Smith and (Eric) Dickerson who were two of my idols growing up.”

Since its inception in 2001, MJCI has raised nearly $7 million for charities including this year’s beneficiaries Make-A-Wish, James R. Jordan Foundation, Keep Memory Alive, Opportunity Village and Cats Care, the NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats’ charity arm.

MJCI celebrities in attendance included:

FORMER BASEBALL GREATS OZZIE SMITH & VINCE COLEMAN WIN 12TH ANNUAL MICHAEL JORDAN INVITATIONAL AT SHADOW CREEK IN LAS VEGAS

More than $500,000 Raised for Charity During 2013 Tournament

LAS VEGAS (April 7, 2013) - Former St. Louis Cardinals baseball superstars and World Series champion teammates Ozzie Smith and Vince Coleman joined forces to once again win a title - this time on the golf course - at the 12th annual Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational (MJCI) hosted by ARIA Resort & Casino. The tournament was held at Shadow Creek for the third consecutive year and was highlighted by the winning duo's score of 11-under par, 133. More than $500,000 was raised for charity as a result of the 2013 event.

Smith and Coleman, who each took home $20,000 for their designated charities, followed up their first-round score of six-under par 66 with a five-under par 67 on day two. They were able to overcome a late surge by the second-place team of Ahmad Rashad and the "Great One" Wayne Gretzky to win by four strokes. The two teams were tied heading into the 17th hole but Smith/Coleman birdied the final two holes while Rashad/Gretzky bogeyed their final two holes.

Click here for MJCI Final Results: http://mjcigolf.com/2013MJCISundaySummary.pdf

Defending champion Brandi Chastain and this year's teammate Ken Griffey, Jr., shot a seven-under par 65 to take the lead after day one. However, the All-Star athletes struggled on Sunday and finished the 36-hole tournament at three-under, 141. Fan favorite, NBA legend and tournament host Michael Jordan teamed up with NFL Super Bowl champion and "sack master" Dwight Freeney to finish in a tie for ninth at Even par, 144.

When asked about the team win Coleman said, "I told Michael ‘give me my teammate. I know Ozzie and I love him.  If there is anyone I want to go down swinging with it's him.' We'll definitely be back but we won't be able to defend together, because if I know Michael, he won't make us partners again."

Discussing their strategy, Hall of Fame shortstop Smith said their approach was simple. "We said, ‘Let's make birdies. Let's not give anything back.'"

Bringing additional fun and laughter to the tournament, the multi-talented Will Smith lent his support to friend and tournament host Michael Jordan when he attended the gala celebration Friday night headlined by musical star John Legend and again Saturday for the first round of the celeb-only tournament. At Shadow Creek, Smith appeared on the first tee and was introduced by the announcer as "the guy who'd like to play the role of Michael Jordan," and the crowd roared.

Hosted at Shadow Creek, MJCI marks only the third time the exclusive golf course has opened its doors to the public. Proceeds from the charitable tournament are benefitting the Make-A-Wish, James R. Jordan Foundation, Opportunity Village and Cats Care, the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats' charity arm. Since its inception in 2001, MJCI has raised more than $6 million for over 45 charities.

MJCI celebrities in attendance included Michael Jordan, Marcus Allen, Flex Alexander, Anthony Anderson, Miles Austin, Brian Baumgartner, Jerome Bettis, Wayne Brady, Dez Bryant, Chevy Chase, Brandi Chastain, Don Cheadle, Chris Chelios, Roger Clemens, Vince Coleman, Michael Crabtree, Brian Cushing, Richard Dent, Kevin Dillon, Julius "Dr. J" Erving, Michael Finley, Josh Freeman, Dwight Freeney, Janet Jones-Gretzky, Wayne Gretzky, Ken Griffey Jr., Penny Hardaway, Ron Harper, April Holmes, Brett Hull, Dan Jansen, Brody Jenner, Bruce Jenner, Andre Johnson, Toni Kukoc, Mario Lemieux, Kenny Lofton, Greg Maddux, Chi McBride, Win McMurry, DeMarco Murray, Kevin Nealon, Hakeem Nicks, Jonathan Ogden, Paul O'Neill, Jake Owen, Patrick Peterson, Michael Phelps, Ahmad Rashad, Jerry Rice, Salli Richardson, Rob Riggle, Stuart Scott, Bruce Smith, Ozzie Smith, Will Smith, Jason Taylor, Alan Thicke, Andre Ward, Winky Wright, Adrian Young and others.

CHASTAIN/SMOLTZ WIN 11TH ANNUAL MICHAEL JORDAN INVITATIONAL
AT SHADOW CREEK IN LAS VEGAS

Funnyman Cedric the Entertainer Also Scheduled to Perform During Evening's Festivities

LAS VEGAS (April 1, 2012) - Soccer superstar Brandi Chastain and former MLB all-star pitcher John Smoltz - teammates and leaders after day one of the 11th annual Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational (MJCI) hosted by ARIA Resort & Casino - shot even par-72 to earn a five-stroke victory at Shadow Creek Golf Course. Chastain and Smoltz each took home $20,000 for their designated charities (final scores below).

The winning duo, who shot a two-day total of six-under par, 138, overcame a difficult performance on the front nine to secure the title. Leading the tournament after day one by two strokes over eventual second-place finishers Roger Clemens and Ahmad Rashad (-1, 143), Chastain/Smoltz fell behind by one after eight holes.

The fan favorites were able to retake the lead after Clemens/Rashad double-bogeyed No. 13; their competitive nature took over later in the round when Smoltz sank an impressive, 20-foot putt for birdie on the 16th hole, clinching the victory.

"We play these tournaments for a good cause, but when we get out here on the course, we all are competitive and want to win," said Smoltz while accepting the crystal trophy. When asked how it felt to win the tournament and to beat host Michael Jordan, Chastain responded with a wink, "It's not about beating Michael." Not taking the loss lightly, Jordan quipped that Chastain and Smoltz would not be partners next year.

Bringing additional fun and laughter to the four-day tournament, multi-talented actor and producer Ashton Kutcher brought his skills to the golf course today, serving as Michael Jordan's caddy. Though Kutcher was clearly enjoying himself on the course, he also made sure to fulfill his caddy duties by pulling clubs, reading greens and providing words of encouragement to Jordan. He even occasionally threw grass in the air to gauge the wind direction, between signing autographs for fans and joking around with Aaron Rodgers, Brian Baumgartner and Dwight Freeney, who were part of the Jordan foursome.

Hosted at Shadow Creek, MJCI marks only the second time the exclusive golf course has opened its doors to the public. Proceeds from the charitable tournament are benefitting the Make-A-Wish Foundation, UC San Diego Nevada Cancer Institute, James R. Jordan Foundation, Opportunity Village and Cats Care, the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats' charity arm. Since its inception in 2001, MJCI has raised more than $6 million for charity.

MJCI celebrities in attendance included Michael Jordan, NE-YO, Marcus Allen, Brian Baumgartner, Jerome Bettis, Brandi Chastain, Chris Chelios, Eddie Cibrian, Roger Clemens, Vince Coleman, Julius Erving, Angie Everhart, Joey Fatone, Marshall Faulk, Terry Francona, Wayne Gretzky, Janet Jones-Gretzky, Ken Griffey, Jr., Penny Hardaway, Brett Hull, Toni Kukoc, Mario Lemieux, Sugar Ray Leonard, Greg Maddux, Win McMurry, Joe Morgan, Paul O'Neill, Maury Povich, Ahmad Rashad, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, LeAnn Rimes, Aaron Rodgers, Stuart Scott, Bruce Smith, Ozzie Smith, John Smoltz, Matt Stafford, Jason Taylor, Alan Thicke, Tico Torres, Michael Wilbon, Winky Wright, Adrian Young and more.

Located in the midst of the barren Nevada desert on the outskirts of Las Vegas, Shadow Creek continues to achieve national recognition and the kind of startling mystique reserved for only a select number of golf courses. The visual elements, spectacular waterfalls and course design lend to astonishing views.

An NBA legend, Michael Jordan was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in September 2009. As a player, Jordan virtually rewrote the record book. His 30.1 points-per-game average is the highest in NBA history and, with 32,292 points, he ranks third on the all-time scoring list. Jordan led the Chicago Bulls to six NBA championship titles and was NBA Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) during each of those series. Jordan, a five-time regular season MVP, became the only player to win back-to-back regular season and Finals MVP awards in 1991 and 1992. In March 2010, Jordan became the majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats, after four years as part of the team's ownership group and its Managing Member of Basketball Operations. Jordan is the first former player to become the majority owner of an NBA franchise.
